SCOTTSVILLE MAN CLAIMS $200,000 POWERBALL PRIZE
January 26, 2012
Edwin Reardon had an inkling that the Powerball ticket in his pocket was no ordinary ticket.
“I pretty much knew I had a winner,” he later told Virginia Lottery officials. “I knew that it was a good bit. I just didn’t know how much!”
A good bit, indeed. The Scottsville man matched the first five numbers in the January 14 Powerball drawing to win the game’s second prize.
The drawing was the last one before changes went into effect in Powerball, increasing the prize for matching the first five numbers to $1 million. Mr. Reardon did not seem disappointed as he claimed his prize at the Virginia Lottery’s Customer Service Center in Farmville.
“My wife hasn’t caught her breath yet,” he said.
Mr. Reardon, who is retired, bought the winning ticket at Pantops Liberty, 240 Rolkin Road in Charlottesville. He chose Easy Pick, allowing the computer to randomly select the numbers on his ticket. The winning numbers for that drawing were 10-30-36-38-41 and the Powerball was 1. Mr. Reardon’s ticket was the only one in Virginia to match the first five numbers in that drawing, and one of just five nationwide.
